FOUNDATIONAL and ESSENTIAL
God. YHVH.
Sh’ma Yisra’el, Adonai YHVH ‘eloheinu, YHVH ‘ehad
— Deut. 6:4
Hear, O Israel, YHVH our God, YHVH is One.
God revealed himself to Moses as “ehyeh-asher-ehyeh” (“I Am That I Am”). I reckon we should take this pronouncement at face value, and see Him as not only as the fount of all being, but containing being in Himself, inherently.
I worship one God in trinity and the trinity in unity, neither blending their persons nor dividing their essence. For the person of the Father is a distinct person, the person of the Son is another, and that of the Holy Spirit still another. But the divinity of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is one, their glory equal, their majesty coeternal.
-
The Father is uncreated.
The Father is immeasurable.
The Father is eternal.
The Father is almighty.
The Father is God.The Father was neither made nor created nor begotten from anyone.
-
The Son is uncreated.
The Son is immeasurable.
The Son is eternal.
The Son is almighty.
The Son is God.The Son was neither made nor created; he was begotten from the Father alone.
-
The Holy Spirit is uncreated.
The Holy Spirit is immeasurable.
The Holy Spirit is eternal.
The Holy Spirit is almighty.
The Holy Spirit is God.The Holy Spirit was neither made nor created nor begotten; he proceeds from the Father and the Son.
FAITH in JESUS CHRIST
That we believe and confess
that our Lord Jesus Christ, God's Son,
is both God and human, equally.
He is God from the essence of the Father,
begotten before time;
and he is human from the essence of his mother,
born in time;
completely God, completely human,
with a rational soul and human flesh;
equal to the Father as regards divinity,
less than the Father as regards humanity.
Although he is God and human,
yet Christ is not two, but one.
He is one, however,
not by his divinity being turned into flesh,
but by God's taking humanity to himself.
He is one,
certainly not by the blending of his essence,
but by the unity of his person.
For just as one human is both rational soul and fire
so too the one Christ is both God and human.
He suffered for our salvation;
he descended to hell;
he arose from the dead;
he ascended to heaven;
he is seated at the Father's right hand;
from there he will come to judge the living and
the dead.
At his coming all people will arise bodily
and give an accounting of their own deeds.
— from the Athanasian Creed
“And you shall love YHVH your God with all of your heart and with all of your soul and with all of your might. And these words that I am commanding you today shall be on your heart. And you shall recite them to your children, and you shall talk about them at the time of your living in your house and at the time of your going on the road and at the time of your lying down and at the time of your rising up. And you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as an emblem between your eyes. And you shall write them on the doorframe of your house and on your gates.

"The same truth (namely, that this is the great means God has ordained for conveying his manifold grace to man) is delivered, in the fullest manner that can be conceived, in the words which immediately follow: 'All Scripture is given by inspiration of God;' consequently, all Scripture is infallibly true; 'and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness;' to the end 'that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works' (2 Tim. 3:16, 17)”
— John Wesley (The Means of Grace) -
"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast" (Ephesians 2:8–9)
"Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. … And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him" (Hebrews 11:1, 6) -
